3 Common Misconceptions About an Online Calculus Class
Continuing your education will require an investment of both time and money, so of course you want to make the best decision when choosing your classes. One of the biggest questions is whether you should attend a traditional in-person school or take classes online. Those who dismiss the idea of taking classes over the internet usually have some common misconceptions about how the classes work and what they offer. Here are three of those misconceptions.
You Can't Learn With Online Classes
If you put forth the effort, you’ll see that learning online is no different than learning in person. You’ll have course material, studying to do, assignments to complete, and everything else you would have from a traditional school. When you take an online calculus class you use the same course materials as you would use at any school, and often the teachers have the same qualifications. You may also have time available with your instructor one-on-one so you can get even more assistance if you need it.
You Don't Get a "Real" Degree
If the online school you choose is accredited, you get the same degree, diploma or certificate as you would from a school in a physical location. It's the accreditation that makes an online calculus class legitimate, not the structure of the classes. Many online schools are also associated with nationally known schools, so you’ll have the same degree or course completion as you would if you attended these schools in person.
It Takes Longer to Complete
In some cases you may actually be able to complete your online calculus course much more quickly when you study online than if you took classes in person. Some schools allow you to go at your own pace, which will allow you to move forward when you're ready, and others have concentrated courses that are structured to be completed as quickly as possible.
Rather than assume any of these misconceptions about an online calculus course are correct, check with an enrollment counselor about the classes you want to take. You may be surprised at how effective and easy online learning can be for students.
